Sunny City Swing honors the Black dancers, musicians, and communities who created swing music and swing dance — and whose artistry continues to inspire everything we do.
Our studio is built on community, connection, and the joyful spirit of social dance. We strive to create a welcoming space for dancers of all backgrounds while acknowledging and celebrating the Black cultural legacy at the heart of Lindy Hop.

We recognize that jazz and swing come from the lived experiences of Black Americans, and we are committed to celebrating these roots with care and authenticity. At Sunny City Swing, this isn’t just history — it’s the foundation of how we teach, dance, and build community.
On a more personal note, growing up in predominantly Black neighborhoods shaped my understanding of jazz, swing, and the communities that created them. That upbringing made it easy for me to connect with Lindy Hop's cultural roots, and that connection continues to shape how we teach and how we build community at Sunny City Swing.

Sunny City Swing strives to be a welcoming space for dancers of all backgrounds — a place where people feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. Our community is built on connection, kindness, and the belief that social dance grows stronger when we acknowledge where it comes from and uplift the people who shaped it.
The Savoy Ballroom was one of the few places in its era where Black and white dancers shared the floor — a space defined by joy, creativity, and community rather than division. That legacy of inclusiveness is part of Lindy Hop’s DNA, and it inspires the way we build our community today.
