Code of Conduct

Our dance space is built to be welcoming and inclusive, a place where dancers of all levels can learn, connect, and enjoy moving together. To keep our community safe and supportive, we ask everyone to follow these guidelines.

Be respectful

Be kind and considerate with every partner. A good dance starts with friendliness and respect.

Practice good dance etiquette

  • Ask before dancing with someone.

  • Respect “yes,” “no,” and “maybe later.”

  • Maintain good personal hygiene and be mindful of physical contact.

  • Keep the dance floor safe — no aerials or lifts in social dancing.

Support a positive learning environment

Allow instructors to lead the class. Avoid teaching or correcting other students unless asked by the instructors. Please stick to the material we’re teaching in the moment. Adding extra patterns or variations can disrupt the flow — our curriculum is designed to build muscle memory through focused repetition, so staying with the lesson helps everyone learn more effectively. Encourage one another and celebrate progress at all levels.

Respect personal boundaries

Everyone has different comfort levels. If someone communicates a boundary — verbally or non‑verbally — please respect it.

Social floor etiquette & floorcraft

Please help keep the dance floor safe and enjoyable for everyone. Be aware of your surroundings, adjust your movement to the space available, and avoid big traveling patterns when the floor is busy. Dips and tricks are fine as long as they’re controlled and comfortable for both partners.

What we don’t allow are aerials or lifts — anything where the feet come high off the ground. These require proper training, spotting, and a controlled environment. We offer jam circles and performance opportunities where aerials are appropriate, but only with a partner you regularly train and practice with.

Keep our space safe

If you feel unwell, please stay home. Report any safety concerns, inappropriate behavior, or incidents to an instructor or staff member right away.

We’re here to help

If you ever feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or unsure how to handle a situation, please speak with an instructor or staff member. We’re committed to keeping Sunny City Swing a friendly, inclusive place for everyone. If you see something unsafe or concerning on the dance floor, please don’t address it yourself. Let us know and we’ll handle it gently and appropriately. This keeps interactions positive and ensures everyone feels supported.
