Asking for a Dance

It’s perfectly okay to ask anyone to dance. A simple “Would you like to dance?” is all you need. Anyone can ask anyone. If someone says no, just say thank you, smile, and ask someone else.

Floorcraft & Safety

Be aware of the space around you. Keep your movements controlled and adjust to the room. If the floor is crowded, keep your shapes smaller. If you accidentally bump someone, a quick smile and “sorry!” goes a long way.

Respecting Your Partner

Keep your connection comfortable. Avoid teaching on the social floor unless someone specifically asks. Match your energy to your partner’s comfort level. Good dancing is about communication, not complexity.

Jam Circles

Jam circles celebrate dancers, birthdays, and special moments. If you’re not part of the featured couple, keep the circle clear. If you want to jump in, make eye contact with your partner and enter confidently. If you and your partner train lifts or aerials together regularly, it’s fine to include them. Otherwise, stick to dips, shapes, and fun floor‑based variations — trying lifts with someone who isn’t expecting it can be unsafe for both partners.

We're so glad you're here — let's dance.

Partner Rotation

Social dancing is all about meeting new people. Dancing with a variety of partners helps everyone grow. If you prefer to stay with one partner, that’s totally  fine.

Aerials & Lifts

Aerials are not permitted during regular social dancing. For safety reasons, lifts and air steps are only allowed during performances, competitions, and jam circles with a clear space and an experienced partner.

Hygiene & Comfort

Bring deodorant, breath mints, and a spare shirt if needed. Wear shoes that won’t stick or damage the floor. If something feels uncomfortable or painful, speak up kindly.

Social Dance Etiquette

Swing dancing is joyful, social, and community‑driven. At Sunny City Swing, we want everyone to feel welcome, safe, and included. These simple guidelines help us create a dance floor where everyone can relax, connect, and have fun.
