What type of shoes should I wear?
For Lindy Hop and swing dancing, people wear all-leather shoes or light sneakers. Women can choose between flats and heels with a broad heel of around 3-4cm height if wearing heels. Light sneakers are popular for women because they are comfortable and make it easier to move around the floor. Suede soles are recommended as leather soles can be slippery while rubber soles can be sticky.
For women: Keds are a great choicebut do not have suede soles; Aris Allen dance sneakers come with suede soles for both men and women, while their leather dress shoes do not.
For Men: The Aris Allen Cap Toe is one of my favorite leather dance shoes, but you will have to add suede to the bottom. Aris Allen dance sneakers are also a great choice, however, most of the sneakers I use for dancing, I have purchased at Aldo and glued suede soles to the bottom.
Suede soles: You can go to a professional shoe repair store at a cost of around $40 to $50 per pair. However, if you have multiple pairs of dance shoes or sneakers that require suede soles, it is definitely more economical to do it yourself. You can purchase the suede from a leather shop and cut it to size before gluing it onto your shoes using Lepage heavy duty cement from Home Depot. This allows for customization and saves money in the long run.
Where to buy: Aris Allen; dancestore.com. Keds: local retail stores or Amazon. Aldo sneakers: local Aldo stores.
The atmosphere on Sunday night at Sunny City Swing is laid back, casual, and a place to have fun. Jeans are fine. However, it's important to keep in mind that you'll be interacting with many different people on the dance floor, so dressing nicely is always appreciated.
Comfort is a priority. You want clothes that allow you to move around freely without worrying about anything falling off or down. At the same time, most evening social dances tend to have a casually fancy vibe.
Dressing up just enough will enhance your overall experience at Sunday Night Swing. So grab your partner or go solo and get ready for an unforgettable night of music and dancing!
